The October Journal
The season changes. The home follows.
Hello, October
October is the quiet beginning of the holiday season.
Before the gatherings, before the guests, before the lists become longer and the calendar becomes fuller, there is a small window to prepare the home thoughtfully. Not with urgency. With intention.
This month, we're looking beyond the everyday reset and toward the months ahead — creating homes that feel organized, welcoming, and ready for what is coming.
From the Founder
Growing On Purpose
October always sneaks up on me a little. One week the mornings are still warm, and the next I'm pulling out sweaters and realizing the holidays are closer than I thought. This month, I've been thinking less about what's on the calendar and more about where we're going — what we're building, and what I want it to become.
If I'm being honest, building this business has been one of the most rewarding things I've ever done. There are goals I set back in January that I've already checked off, and new ones I couldn't have dreamed up at the start of the year. There are weeks when the to-do list is long, but every item on it is something I chose — work I believe in, for families I care about. That's what building something real feels like.
Real growth doesn't always look like big milestones. Sometimes it looks like one more family trusting us with their home. A routine that finally clicks for a client. A pantry that's still organized two weeks later. Small wins, stacked quietly on top of each other, until one day you look up and realize how far you've come.
So this month I'm keeping my goals simple and my standards honest. Grow with intention, not urgency. Take care of every family we serve like they're the only one. Keep learning, keep showing up, and let the work speak for itself.
And I'm learning to trust what God is building here — even when I can't see the whole picture yet. God has given us our own path to walk, and every step forward is worth celebrating. There's so much still ahead.
Whatever goal you're chasing right now — at home, in your work, in yourself — I hope you'll give yourself credit for how far you've already come. We're not behind. We're just getting started.
With love, Edelvis Chavez
The October Home Edit
Your home's holiday head start.
The holidays have a way of arriving all at once. October is the month to get ahead of them — while there is still room to breathe.
01
Open the Holiday Storage
Pull out your holiday decorations before you need them. Go through everything. What do you still love? What needs replacing? What is broken? What did you never use last year? What needs to be donated?
This isn't about buying more. It's about knowing what you already have. A little organization now can save hours later.
- Keep
- Replace
- Let go
02
Reset the Bathroom Drawers
The bathroom drawers are easy to ignore because they're hidden. October is a good time to change that.
Remove everything. Wipe the drawers completely. Toss expired products and empty packaging. Group everyday essentials together and move occasional-use items elsewhere.
Less searching. Less excess. More ease. A beautifully organized drawer may be one of the smallest luxuries in a home — but you'll notice it every morning.
03
Give the Pantry a Holiday Head Start
The pantry becomes one of the hardest-working spaces in the home once the holidays arrive. Baking supplies. Extra snacks. Hosting essentials. School breaks. Family dinners. Last-minute guests.
Before adding another grocery order, know what you already have.
- Remove expired items
- Group like items together
- Create clear zones
- Check duplicates
- Make frequently used items accessible
- Create a holiday-ready inventory
Consider Booking a Pantry Reset
If your pantry has become a catch-all — or you simply want it functioning beautifully before the holidays — October is the perfect time to schedule a Chavez & Company Pantry Reset.
Because organization isn't just about making something look beautiful. It's about making the home work better.
The October Table
Comfort, simplified.
October dinners should feel warm, familiar, and uncomplicated.
Chicken Tomato Soup + Flour Tortillas
A cozy bowl of chicken tomato soup with warm flour tortillas on the side. Simple enough for a weeknight. Comforting enough to become a repeat.
C&C serving note: Keep tortillas on hand in the freezer for an effortless pairing whenever soup makes its way onto the menu.
Bowtie Pasta + Mini Meatballs + Broccoli
A dinner that quietly checks every box. Bowtie pasta. Mini meatballs. Broccoli. Serve it simply or finish it with parmesan and a little olive oil.
The next-day advantage: Pack leftovers before dinner is even cleared. Tomorrow's lunch is already handled.
The Breakfast Edit
October mornings.
The best breakfasts aren't necessarily elaborate. They're the ones that make the morning feel easier.
Croissant French Toast
French toast made with croissant bread is the kind of breakfast that turns an ordinary morning into something memorable. Serve with berries, powdered sugar, maple syrup, or simply butter.
The Parfait Bar
Set everything out and let everyone build their own. It's simple, customizable, and especially useful when everyone's breakfast preferences seem to change by the morning.
- Base
- Greek or vanilla yogurt
- Fruit
- Strawberries · blueberries · bananas
- Toppings
- Granola · honey · coconut · chia seeds · mini chocolate chips · crushed graham crackers
The Freezer Favorite
Frozen pancakes. Yes, really. There is something to be said for having a few excellent shortcuts in your freezer. Warm them. Add fruit. Pour the syrup. Done.
A well-run household isn't about making everything from scratch. It's about knowing when convenience is the smarter choice.
The Household Standard
Preparation is a form of care.
The most effortless homes often have something in common: someone thought ahead. The pantry was organized before the holiday rush. The guest towels were ready before company arrived. The decorations were sorted before the first box was opened. The freezer had a few dependable meals waiting.
The home didn't become calm by accident. It was prepared for.
At Chavez & Company, this is part of what we mean by a proper reset. We aren't simply putting things back. We're creating the conditions for the next season of life to feel easier.

The October House Call
“Do I really need to organize before the holidays?”
If you're asking yourself this in October, the answer may simply be: this is when it's easiest.
November and December bring enough with them. Guests. Travel. School events. Shopping. Hosting. Work. Family. October gives you something the holidays don't: time. Use it.
A home doesn't need to be perfect for the holidays. It just needs to be ready to hold them.
A note from Chavez & Company
October is not about rushing toward the holidays. It's about creating enough breathing room to enjoy them when they arrive.
So this month, we're choosing preparation over pressure. A little organization now. A little intention. A little less to worry about later.
Welcome, October.
