The Soft Landing Into August

August has a rhythm of its own — long light, tired kids, and the first quiet thought of backpacks. This week we cook three things that need almost nothing from us, reset the one drawer that runs the house, and get outside before the sun goes down.

Welcome to The Chavez & Company Weekly

Hi friends,

I'm so happy you're here.

One of my goals for Chavez & Company has always been to become more than a household service. I want us to become a trusted resource for families—a place where you can find encouragement, practical ideas, and a little extra help each week.

As a working mom, I'm still learning too.

I'm learning how to create routines that actually work, how to balance motherhood with running a business, and how to give myself grace when everything doesn't go according to plan. Some weeks feel organized, while others remind me that life is beautifully unpredictable.

That's one of the reasons I wanted to create The Chavez & Company Weekly.

Every Friday, you'll find fresh dinner ideas, fun lunchbox inspiration, family activities, home tips, seasonal reminders, and simple ways to make everyday life feel a little lighter—all at no extra cost.

Think of it as a modern household magazine designed for busy families.

Whether you're looking for a quick dinner recipe, a creative lunch idea, a weekend activity, or just a little encouragement, I hope this becomes a place you look forward to visiting each week.

One of my favorite parts of what I do is being an extra set of hands.

There is something incredibly rewarding about walking into a home, helping lift the weight off someone's shoulders, and knowing that when we leave, a family can spend more time together instead of worrying about another chore waiting for them.

I truly look forward to meeting every client and building relationships that go far beyond a cleaning appointment.

I'm also incredibly grateful for my team. Their kindness, dedication, and genuine care for every family we serve are what make Chavez & Company so special. They show up every day with excellence, compassion, and a heart to help, and I couldn't be more thankful to have them by my side.

As we begin shifting into a back-to-school season, I know many families are preparing for new routines, busy schedules, packed lunches, homework, sports, and everything in between.

If there's one thing I hope you remember, it's this:

Asking for help doesn't make you weak.

It makes you human.

Whether it's asking a friend, leaning on family, or inviting our team into your home, you don't have to carry everything alone.

We're always here to help.

Thank you for welcoming us into your homes and allowing us to be part of your family's journey.

With gratitude, Edelvis Chavez Founder, Chavez & Company

Home Tip of the Week

Reset the drawer that runs your house

Every home has one drawer everything passes through — chargers, permission slips, batteries, a stray sock. When that drawer is chaos, everything else feels chaotic too. Give it twenty minutes this week.

  1. 01Empty it completely onto a towel. All of it, no sorting yet.
  2. 02Make three piles: belongs here, belongs elsewhere, garbage.
  3. 03Wipe the drawer out and add two small containers — one for cords, one for tiny things.
  4. 04Put back only what you touched in the last month. Walk the rest to its real home tonight.

Dinner Made Easy

Three simple family dinners

25 minutesAbout $15 for four

Grilled marinated chicken with corn & tomato salad

  • 2 lb chicken breast or thighs
  • 4 ears sweet corn
  • 1 pint cherry tomatoes
  • 1 red onion
  • Olive oil, lime, cumin, garlic

Marinate the chicken in oil, lime, cumin and garlic while the grill heats. Grill chicken and corn together, then cut the corn off the cob and toss with tomatoes, onion and lime. Make extra chicken — Wednesday depends on it.

40 minutes, mostly hands-offAbout $11 for four

Baked ziti with zucchini

  • 1 lb ziti
  • 1 jar marinara or fresh tomato sauce
  • 2 zucchini, grated
  • 1 container ricotta
  • Shredded mozzarella

Boil the pasta short of al dente, fold in sauce, grated zucchini and ricotta, top with mozzarella and bake at 400°F for 20 minutes. Freezes beautifully — make two, keep one.

15 minutesAbout $8 for four

Chicken & avocado rice bowls

  • Leftover grilled chicken, sliced
  • Rice
  • 2 avocados
  • Cucumber and shredded lettuce
  • Black beans, lime, cilantro

Warm the rice, slice Monday's chicken, set everything on the counter and let everyone build their own. Greens of your choice, always.

Always add greens of your choice. Printable recipe cards are coming soon.

Westchester CountyFree to walk

Rye Playland boardwalk

Best for ages 3+. Arrive right at 10 AM when the gates open, and check the website first for late-summer hours.

AnywhereFree

Backpack drawer + library card refresh

Start one back-to-school drawer now and stop at the library on the way home. Air conditioning, new books, and forty minutes where someone else is in charge.

Seasonal Living — Late Summer

August: the last of the good tomatoes

Connecticut corn, tomatoes, peaches and peppers are at their absolute peak and will be gone before you know it. Cook simply and let the produce carry the meal.

Saturday farmers market before the heat sets in.
Freeze a tray of peaches for winter oatmeal.
Eat outside twice this week — even if it's the same dinner.
Pull last year's school clothes now and donate what no longer fits.

The Chavez Way

You do not have to earn rest by finishing everything. Rest is part of the work.

See you next Friday
